During each dive you learn something new and no two dives are
ever the same.
Combine that with often beautiful locations round our Islands
and a great bunch of people and you have sport diving in the
UK with HGSAC.
Although I've dived in a variety of locations around the world,
I still think that the diving off the British coastline is
fascinating. Weekends away with the club are good fun and there
is something for all types of divers.
I look forward to diving with you soon. |
Gordon & Sue Brookes
 |
Gordon and Sue brookes are finding the club to be very friendly
and helpful. Gordon has been interested in diving for a long time
but has only recently had the opportunity to take things further.
During his first year he has become a Sports diver and has also
completed a Boat Handling course at Anglesey last Autumn.
Sue , on the other hand gained her Ocean Diver qualification
with the benefit of training advice from most, if not all of
the clubs skilled instructors. She was thrilled to be presented
with the "Novice of the year" trophy, even if it
was awarded this time for stubborn perseverance!
"We look forward to going onwards and downwards!" |

"I first became interested in diving when a junior member of Bramhall Tennis Club - but at the time was too young to dive (about 6!). I trained with Manchester Metropolitan University dive club in 1993, diving in North Wales, the Lakes and the North East. After leaving university I mainly dived on holiday - Red Sea, Kenya & Antigua, before joining HGSAC in June 2003.
Since joining I've dived in Anglesey, Scapa, The Farnes - and a stack of other places. Not done as much diving recently as I'd like, but intend to do a bit more. Assistant Club instructor and Sports Diver at the moment - need to sort out my Dive Leader sometime soon..."

Gary Holgate
|
Gary Holgate have been a member of HGSAC since 1992. Gary
is an Advanced Diver and Open Water Instructor and has previously
served on the committee as a Training Officer and Diving Officer.
Gary and his wife Jane can still be found helping out with
instructing and are still enjoying their diving with great
enthusiasm, although for Jane the attraction of jumping into
dark murky quarries and deep dark wrecks has lost some of the
attraction, but she still looks forward to their annual trips
to the Farne Islands and Lyme Regis and other interesting places.
Both keep fit enthusiasts, when they're not splashing about
in water they can often be found plodding the streets of Cheadle! |

I have been diving for 12 years and am a BSAC advanced diver
+ IANTD Technical Nitrox diver. It is my intention to complete
the Trimix qualification this year. I enjoy all aspects of diving
but have a particular interest in wrecks, especially those which
are happy to give up their brass bits to me! On one such "brass
fevered" dive, we ended up doing two hours and 20 minutes
of deco.
I have just finished two years as DO with HGSAC and enjoyed
the role and feel that I have been instrumental in helping
to drive the club membership from strength to strength. I
am keen that all the membership get actively involved with
developing the diving in our club and look to each member
to organise at least one club dive per year.
As well as diving I enjoy riding my motorbike, DIY and shooting
clay pigeons. As far as a mantra goes it would have to be
' If you say you are going to do it, do it' |

Vaughn Sherrah-Davies
 |
Vaughn started diving about 10 year ago and now is an advanced
diver with Nitrox and Trimix qualifications. For the last 3 years
he has been diving with the Inspiration Rebreather.
His favourite dive sites include the wrecks off Anglesey,
Scapa Flow, South Shields and the South coast. He particularly likes
discovering new wrecks.
Vaughn has been the equipment officer for the boats for the
last 2 years and has dived with many other clubs such as Salford
and North Wales. |
Neil Suttcliffe
 |
Neil started learning to dive with a local club a year ago (spring 2001), after a try dive in Corsica. He joined HGSAC because it gave more opportunities for diving, and has been diving actively with the club since.
He recently completed Dive leader training would and is keen to progress further. Already has a professional interest in gases and breathing circuits as he works as an anaesthetist at the local hospital. He would eventually like to get involved in training. He likes all the types of diving tried so far, particularly if there's lots of life.
