We received this picture from a
lady called Jane Renshaw, who was a member of HGSAC over 30 years
ago. These were members of the club, on the club boat at Poynton
pool. Does anybody know their names? |

Picture and text by Ernie Cunliffe

This
photo (left) was taken in the early seventies, somewhere
near Macclesfield. The snorkellers are reading from left to right,
Ernie Cunliffe, Alan Baker, Chris Pollard, Brian Bowskill and
D.O. Mike Earlam. The reason for being there is quite amusing.
Local folk-lore said that the little pond in the background was
bottomless. So two brave divers with twin-sets ( and twin hose
regulators) were to dive into the abyss. We even had to carry
there bottles to the pond so that they didn't exert themselves
before the dive!.However one member called Keith Plant kitted
up first and waded into the pond. There was a shout and there
was Keith standing in the middle of the pond with the water scarcely
up to his waist. We did a search of course but all we found was
a one-arm bandit and a supermarket trolley. I don't think we
even logged it as a dive!. |
