The British Sub Aqua Club
Introduction

BSAC (part of your HGSAC membership includesthe BSAC membership fee).
The British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) is the world's biggest diving
club and one of the most respected diving organisations
in the world with a reputation for the excellence of its diver training
programme. It was formed in 1953 to promote underwater sport,
exploration, science and safety to the highest standards and now has
some 1,600 Branches and 400 Schools and Resort Centres world-wide.
The President of the BSAC is
HRH The Prince of Wales. The
BSAC is a Company Limited by Guarantee and as such cannot distribute
a profit to its shareholders, the Members (including Officers and Council
Members). This means the net results of all BSAC activities are constantly
ploughed back into further development of the sport to the benefit
of all divers. BSAC HQ
The Headquarters of the BSAC are located in Ellesmere Port, in
the North West of England. Headquarters staff deal with membership
administration, finances, communications, first line technical queries
and the administration of many of our courses and examinations. The BSAC
Mailshop handles the sales and distribution of BSAC publications and
products to both members, the dive trade and direct public sales. Contact
details... BSAC Branches?
BSAC branches are autonomous groups of BSAC members who organise and
promote their own diving activities, frequently having group ownership
of equipment such as dive boats, compressors and often training equipment.
Most branches have open membership and are based on population centres,
usually meeting weekly at local swimming pools.
Some groups are based on closed facilities, such as Universities, Military
bases or works-based Sports Clubs, and form Special Branches with restricted
membership.
BSAC Branches can be found in numerous locations all around the World,
with the majority located in the U.K. You can choose to join a BSAC Branch,
or to become a Direct Member of the BSAC.
BSAC membership is open to everyone, whatever the your level, qualification,
affiliation or agency and all divers who join us automatically
enjoy the same membership benefits. For divers trained with another agency,
for example PADI or SAA, the BSAC will recognise your previous diving
experience and qualifications and offer cross over courses to the equivalent
BSAC qualifications.
